Two foreign tourists were arrested and later released on warning for taking photos without approval at the Zulu royal reed dance at kwaNongoma in Northern KwaZulu-Natal, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) reported.
Organisers told the SABC on Saturday that a man and a woman had failed to obey rules made to protect the participants and retain the dignity of the ceremony.
Women wearing trousers were also prevented from entering the royal household, in keeping with tradition.
This week, Nhlanhla Mtaka, media director for the event, spoke out against ”sex perverts” who had caused organisers to impose strict access controls.
”Zulu maidens are increasingly becoming targets of unscrupulous photographers and cameramen who take the pictures of maidens and flash them on internet porn sites,” he said.
The SABC also reported that some of the participants had suffered from heat stroke. – Sapa
