Two men apprehended over murder of journalist

Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a North West journalist who went missing two weeks ago, police said on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Captain Mabel Mosidi said the men were arrested on Tuesday in Matlhonyane village outside Mafikeng after the badly decomposed body of Thozamile Kole (24) was found in a pit latrine.

She said after the pair were arrested they led police to the place where they had dumped Kole’s body.

”Kole was hit on the head with a bottle and strangled with a belt,” she said.

The two men, aged 26 and 18, will appear in the Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of murder and hijacking. The 18-year-old man is a grade-10 pupil at Letsatsing High School in Mafikeng.

Mosidi said two more men were arrested for possession of stolen property after the wheels of Kole’s car were found in their possession. The two will also appear in court on Friday.

Kole, a reporter for the Mafikeng-based Taxi Time newspaper, went missing at the end of last month. — Sapa
