A fifth badly decomposed body of a woman has been found in a KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) sugar-cane field, police said on Thursday.
”We suspect the woman was about 18 to 35 years of age,” said police spokesperson Superintendent Zandra Hechter.
The body was found on Thursday afternoon.
Four other bodies have been discovered in the same plantation at the Shayamoya township of Umzinto.
Two were found on Sunday, a third on Monday and the fourth on Wednesday.
One of the bodies was missing its head, which was later recovered from a dog wandering through Shayamoya with the head in its mouth.
One of the bodies has been identified as that of Nombali Ngcobo from Durban’s Inanda area.
Police were on Thursday still awaiting the outcome of the post-mortems to determine how the women died.
Hechter said police were still not prepared to say that they were dealing with a serial killer and would also not confirm whether all the deaths were linked.
The South African Press Association has learnt that forensics experts were expected to arrive from Pretoria soon. — Sapa
