Cheetahs beat lions in error-filled match

It was not a pretty game to watch or one to remember as the Free State Cheetahs and the Lions made far too many mistakes in a Currie Cup game in Bloemfontein that was eventually won by the home side 24-19.

The Cheetahs lead 10-9 at half-time.

The stars of the night for the hosts were undoubtedly Marius Joubert (centre), Heinrich Brüssow (replacement flanker) and Jannie du Plessis (prop). Joubert showed his class and experience, while Brüssow was simply brilliant in the loose. Du Plessis for the first time this season played with some aggression.

And not to be forgotten for his performance, the role of the old campaigner, Ollie le Roux (replacement prop).

For the Lions Cobus Grobbelaar (flanker) and Jacques Cronjé (eighth man) had their moments. Louis Ludik (full back) and Louis Strydom (flyhalf) also displayed some good touches. — Sapa
