Arrests made after schoolboy stabbings

Four Athlone Boys’ High pupils were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the stabbing of two pupils, and other suspects are being sought, Johannesburg police said.

Captain Cheryl Engelbrecht said the boys would face charges of murder and attempted murder.

The arrested were between the ages of 16 and 18.

It is believed this group attacked and repeatedly stabbed two boys from the King Edward VII school in Houghton, at a party in Randburg on Sunday.

Mfundo Ntshangase (18) was stabbed several times in the back and chest while his friend, Thabo Linda, was stabbed in the chest.

Ntshangase later died at hospital. His friend was discharged from hospital on Monday.

Engelbrecht said a Randburg task team set up to investigate the crime swooped on the four on Tuesday but were unable to trace a fifth teenage suspect believed to have been involved in the crime.

”Police are presently searching for him and we hope to make more arrests soon,” she said. — Sapa
