Film producer shot twice in Bryanston

Film producer Johan Heyns (58) was in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Fourways north of Johannesburg after being shot in the pelvis at his Bryanston home on Sunday night.

News24 reported on Wednesday that Heyns, who currently runs Fevertree Productions, walked for the first time on Tuesday. He worked for many years with his father, Thys, at Heyns Films.

His wife, Sue Heyns, was quoted as saying she was watching television on Sunday night and that her husband had gone to brush his teeth in the bathroom.

”He was already brushing his teeth when he saw a man in a red shirt with him in the bathroom,” she said.

She heard a shot being fired, then a groan and then another shot.

Heyns was struck by one bullet.

Police and private security guards were alerted when tenants on the property pushed a panic button.

Heyns said she could see out of the corner of her eye that there was a second man.

The intruders fled and News24 made no mention of any arrests.

Heyns was hit in the left side of the pelvis and reportedly also has damage to his bladder.

Sue Heyns said she did not know how the men gained entry to the house. – Sapa
