Ireland prop hospitalised

Ireland prop Simon Best was hospitalised on Wednesday night after feeling unwell and complaining of a loss of feeling down his right side, a team spokesperson said.

The symptoms began on Wednesday on a day off for the team from its Rugby World Cup campaign, said team spokesperson Karl Richardson.

”He was immediately transferred with the Irish team doctor to a local hospital, where he is still undergoing tests to determine the cause of these symptoms,” Richardson added. ”The team was on a day off and there was no reason we could see behind the symptoms.”

Richardson said there was no indication Best was suffering from a concussion, and had not been on the receiving end of any big hits in training.

Ireland’s last game was a 25-3 loss to France at the Stade de France on September 21. Best was named as a substitute in Ireland’s team for its crucial last Group D match against Argentina on Sunday. — Sapa-AP
