No commissions paid, says Khoza

Premier Soccer League (PSL) members have not been paid any commission from the television broadcasting and Absa sponsorship deals, PSL chairperson Irvin Khoza said on Tuesday.

Indeed, the issue of the payment of commissions had not even been finalised yet, he told reporters in Johannesburg.

Khoza was speaking after an emergency meeting of the PSL executive.

Finance Minister Trevor Manuel has come out against PSL negotiators benefiting, in the form of commission, for their work on commercial transactions benefiting the PSL.

”My understanding is that individuals are elected on to the league’s various committees to serve the interest of the sport, not in the expectation of acquiring personal fortunes to the detriment of the organisation they are representing,” Manuel wrote in an open letter.

Khoza said he had not yet seen the letter.

He said he was ”disappointed” that his comments had not been sought.

”He may have information at his disposal that enables him to make such pronouncements,” said Khoza.

Manuel had been informed of the status of talks about the possible payments of commissions before the letter was written, Khoza said. — Sapa
