Load shedding to leave parts of Pretoria dark

A number of electricity substations were to be switched off in Pretoria on Tuesday to assist in load shedding to alleviate a power shortage experienced during the rainy weather, the City of Tshwane said.

The substations in the city were to be disconnected from 3pm to 5pm, and from 5pm to 7pm.

Supplier Eskom has called on cities countrywide to assist in load shedding, in order to prevent power shortages due to an increased demand for electricity during the wet weather.

Eskom spokesperson Fani Zulu said the shortage of electrical supply is still continuing and consumers are asked to save electricity around the country.

”Regions in South Africa are currently in the brown stages of the power shortage,” he said.

This means that the electricity supply nationally is under severe strain and, therefore, load shedding is in progress.

The following substations were to be switched off from 3pm to 5pm: Piet Geers, Rietvlei, Waterkloof, Highlands, Lynwood, Skinner, Edmund, Villieria, Pyramid, Atteridgeville and Saulsville.

Depending on Eskom’s capacity requirements, the following substations were to be switched off between 5pm and 7pm: Soshanguve, Pumulani, Koedoespoort, Boom Street, Tunnel, K1, K3, Princess Park, River, Kloofsig, Olievenhoutbosch and Kosmosdal. — Sapa
