UJ students meet govt officials

Department of Education officials met University of Johannesburg (UJ) students on Wednesday, said the Student Representative Council (SRC).

SRC president Mhlobo Hoyi said students met the officials but he would only know the outcome later on Wednesday.

”The officials went to consult with the [provincial minister of], Angie Motshekga, and I’ll know at 6pm if our meeting was a success.”

He promised to issue a statement on Thursday based on the outcome.

University spokesperson Sonia Cronje said they were aware of the meeting because vice-chancellor Ihron Rensburg had met with an official from the Department of Education on Tuesday.

She said the institution was not part of the discussions on Wednesday. ”We are waiting for further consultations with the department, then we’ll issue a statement.” — Sapa
