Fake Bok jerseys land shop owner in trouble

With just a day left to the rugby World Cup final, a man has been fined in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court for trading in counterfeit Springbok jerseys, Gauteng police said on Friday.

Spokesperson Eugene Opperman said the owner of a shop at Value Mall in Boksburg was arrested on Thursday for being in possession of and trading in counterfeit Springbok jerseys.

”The man was released after the Boksburg court set an admission of guilt fine of R5 560,” Opperman said.

”Police and the legitimate license holders of the Springbok trademark on Thursday successfully applied in court for a warrant to search the shop. During the search they seized several jerseys bearing the Springbok emblem.”

The Springbok jersey carries the emblem that is protected under laws governing trademarks and copyright.

”We are keeping an eye out for informal traders who illegally sell jerseys and other clothing which has the Springbok emblem on it,” said Opperman. — Sapa
