A woman lost her legs during Rugby World Cup celebrations in Pretoria, police said on Monday.
Spokesperson Inspector Paul Ramaloko said the woman, in her 20s, was injured when a car ran over her in Sunnyside on Saturday night after the Springboks won the World Cup tournament.
”A crowd took to the streets to celebrate the victory; there was car-spinning and a woman was run over — the car cut off her legs,” he said.
Another woman was also seriously injured during the celebrations.
The two women were part of a crowd that was dancing in the street when some motorists started to spin their cars.
Ramaloko said police fired rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the unruly crowd.
Several people were arrested for public violence and reckless driving after the incident, he said. — Sapa
