Eleven in court for Gauteng murder, robbery

Ten men and a sangoma are to appear in the Westonaria Magistrate’s Court after they were arrested for the murder and armed robbery of a Jagfontein man, Gauteng police said on Thursday.

Superintendent Lungelo Dlamini said the female sangoma and the men, aged between 25 and 55, were arrested at a house in Ennerdale on Wednesday afternoon. They would appear in court on Friday.

”Police caught one of the men shortly after the group shot and killed a 70-year old man from Jagfontein, West Rand. They also took two of his bakkies, an undisclosed amount of money as well as some jewellery,” said Dlamini.

The 70-year-old owner of Ashvalley Bricks and Sand was shot in the upper body while his wife and son were tied up.

Dlamini said the man who had been caught by police then led them to the rest of the gang at a house in Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg.

”Police found the nine other suspects as well as a female sangoma. Five pistols and a revolver were found at the house, as well as some of the stolen cash and the other hijacked bakkie. The bakkie that the other robber had been travelling in was also recovered,” he said.

A Volvo hijacked in Honeydew in September and a Toyota Corolla hijacked in May were also found.

”They face charges of murder, armed robbery, hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearms and stolen goods,” said Dlamini. – Sapa
