Lansdowne murder: Five to appear in court

Five men who were arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a Lansdowne man last week were expected to appear in court on Monday, Western Cape police said.

Captain Elliot Sinyangana said the men — between the ages of 20 and 40 — were arrested last Thursday following an intensive investigation into the death and kidnapping of a 21-year-old man.

The man was reported missing last Tuesday and was found murdered in the Nectar informal settlement the following day.

Sinyangana said the man was held hostage by two armed men while closing a panelbeating workshop he worked for.

”These criminals held the man at gunpoint, demanded money and ran away with him in a bronze Peugeot that was scheduled for panelbeating,” Sinyangana said.

”The man sustained wounds to the head and the stolen vehicle was recovered in Grassy Park,” he said.

Sinyangana said a bronze Peugeot and a white Toyota Corolla were recovered during the arrests.

”At this stage the motive for the attack is suspected to be robbery,” said Sinyangana.
