Law catches up with most wanted criminal

One of South Africa’s most wanted criminals was caught on Monday after Gauteng police received information from the public about his whereabouts.

Police spokesperson Inspector Richard Munyai said Mkhonto Mandla Cele (27) was one of the most wanted and dangerous criminals in Jeppestown and KwaZulu-Natal.

Munyai said: ”We received information that he was staying at a place near Park Station in Johannesburg. We surrounded the building and he tried to flee, but police gave chase and he was soon arrested.

”The man was previously arrested in Kranskop in April, but managed to escape during a court appearance and has eluded police ever since.”

Cele is facing charges of murder, robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm. He is being held at Jeppe police station and will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon. — Sapa
