Petim saves the day for Ajax

Andre Petim, the Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper was his side’s hero as he saved a late penalty to share the spoils with Free State Stars in a goalless Absa PSL match at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday evening.

This ensures that Ajax remain top of the log.

Ajax were out to avenge the 1-0 defeat they suffered at the hands of Stars, who eliminated them from the Telkom Knockout competition.

Terror Fanteni, Ajax’s ace striker, was given little scope by the confident Sipho Nkosi for the Stars’ defence. Nkosi tied up Fanteni and Ajax coach Craig Rosslee substituted him with the lanky Natahan Paulse in the 72nd minute.

For Stars, Sthembiso Ngcobo came close with a diving header from a cross by Matome Madimabe just before the interval.

Stars goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene brought off a few good saves in the first half and Bageta Vikdikilu was outstanding for the Ajax defence.

Petim kept Ajax in the game to salvage a point when he saved a penalty from substitute Sifiso Vilakazi in the 80th minute.

Vilikazi had replaced Sifiso Sithole a minute earlier. – Sapa
