Leopards lose to Celtic 1-0

Bloemfontein Celtic beat the Limpopo-based Black Leopards 1-0 in a fast, entertaining Absa Premier League game played at Giyani Stadium on Wednesday night.

AmaSokolare were leading 1-0 at the break.

Leopards’ coach, Boebie Solomons, could not believe his eyes when defender Luvhengo Mungomeni scored an own goal trying to clear four minutes before halftime, beating his own goalkeeper.

Leopards striker Myron Shongwe improved his pace in the second half, trying for an equaliser, but was blocked by a solid wall of Celtic defenders.

Solomons then made double changes in the second half, beefing up his attacking strike force.

To neutralise the Leopards attack, Celtic coach Khabo Zondo also made some changes up front and it worked well to balance any dangerous moves by the opposition.

At the end, a happy Zondo collected maximum points, giving his team a total of 17 points from nine games with five wins, two draws and two losses.

Meanwhile, Leopards are still struggling with only nine points from nine games and just three wins. – Sapa
