A Port Elizabeth doctor may sue Comair after he suffered burns to his back and buttocks when hot water from a snacks trolley fell on him during turbulence, the Herald Online reported on Monday.
Dr Abry Ntliziyo (44) and his wife were flying from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth last month when turbulence caused the trolley, pushed by a flight attendant, to shake and the pot of water to fall on him, the report said.
He suffered burns to his back and his buttocks.
Ntliziyo said he then had to sit on the wet seat for the duration of the flight.
The airline told the Herald they had offered him compensation of a one-way local flight to a destination of his choice. The airline also to offered to pay the shortfall on his medical costs but it was found that Ntliziyo’s medical-aid scheme had paid for his treatment.
Ntliziyo declined Comair’s offers and was sticking to legal action, the report said.
Ntliziyo said the airline’s staff had not checked on his condition, and no-one had offered to help him after the aircraft had landed. He also said the staff had not shown any remorse.
He said if the staff had treated him with respect and dignity, he might not be considering legal action. – Sapa
