Capricorn FM goes on air

The Limpopo-based Capricorn FM went on air this week, one of three new radio stations that received their broadcasting licences earlier this year.

‘We’ve been doing test runs since last week and we officially launched at 6am on Monday morning,” said Capricorn FM marketing manager Jerry Ramodike.

The new adult contemporary radio station is aimed at LSM 4-6 income groups and listeners aged between 16 and 34.

Ramodike said feedback from listeners was overwhelming while some advertisers have adopted a wait-and-see attitude.

‘But others understand our vision and invested in the station immediately,” he added.

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa granted licences to Capricorn FM, Mpower FM and Radio North West in April. The exercise is aimed at stimulating commercial radio growth in secondary economic markets.

Capricorn FM is owned by a consortium led by businessmen Simphiwe Mdladlose and Given Mkhari of MSG Africa Media.
