The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on Wednesday would not comment on a report that Glen Agliotti — accused of the murder of mining magnate Brett Kebble — had entered into a deal with the Scorpions.
Earlier, Talk Radio 702 reported that Agliotti’s deal was linked to the drug charges he faces relating to an international smuggling ring.
”The NPA has not made any movement. It has not made any pronouncement,” said NPA spokesperson Tlali Tlali.
”With regards to Mr Agliotti, when the NPA is in a position to communicate anything, it will.”
As part of that alleged deal, Agliotti will apparently receive a suspended sentence and a fine of R500 000, but in return he will have to give the Scorpions his cooperation in other cases.
He is expected to appear in court on Wednesday to confirm the deal, the broadcaster reported.
The Germiston Magistrate’s Court could not confirm an appearance and Agliotti’s legal representatives were not immediately available to comment.
Tlali said that the review of an investigation by the Scorpions into police National Commissioner Jackie Selebi, who has come under fire for being a friend of Agliotti, was complete and the findings had been handed to the Acting National Director of Public Prosecutions.
”When he is ready we will make a communication on this.”
Advocate Vusi Pikoli, the former National Director of Public Prosecutions, was suspended after he gave the go ahead for the arrest of Selebi, without informing the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development. – Sapa
