A 40-year-old man killed his wife and then handed himself over to police in Acornhoek, Mpumalanga police said on Friday.
The man, from Acornhoek near Bushbuckridge, had an argument with his wife at about noon on Thursday.
”He took out a knife and stabbed her four times all over her body, and then he took a hammer and hit her on the back of her head,” said Superintendent Abie Khoabane.
The man then handed himself over to police, who are investigating a case of murder. He will appear in the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Mpumalanga police are also investigating another murder in Dirkiesdorp near Piet Retief, where the body of a 40-year-old man was found lying in a pool of blood in the street.
The man had gunshot wounds to the head and arm. Two empty cartridges were found next to him.
No arrests have been made and police are appealing for anyone with information to contact Khoabane on Tel: 082 415 8375. — Sapa
