The Cabinet has cracked down on departments that persistently receive poor audit reports and given them six weeks to sort out their problems.
Briefing the media on Tuesday, following the Cabinet’s first meeting of 2008, government spokesperson Themba Maseko said it had noted the Auditor General’s report on the audit outcomes of national and provincial government departments.
”The meeting noted that the departments of correctional services, defence, home affairs, labour … and the government printing works are persistently receiving poor audit outcomes.
”The Cabinet resolved that the executing authorities and accounting officers of these departments should put corrective measures in place to address all the findings of the Auditor General without delay, and report to National Treasury by February 28.”
Maseko said executive authorities had been instructed to put monitoring measures in place to prevent further adverse findings by the Auditor General. — Sapa
