Soap star Ashleigh Callie, known for her role as Lee Haynes in Isidingo, will undergo surgery at Johannesburg General Hospital following an accident in Linden, it was reported on Saturday.
”The accident took place at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Tana Road at about 10.30pm last night [Friday],” said Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.
Minnaar said Callie was driving alone in a Smart Car when there was a head-on collision with a red Renault.
”We are not sure about what the exact cause of the accident was, but police are investigating.”
Minnaar said the driver of the Renault, a male, and two female passengers were also seriously injured and then transported to Milpark Hospital.
It was reported on radio 702 that Callie was in a stable but critical condition after having suffered severe head injuries.
Coordinating producer for the award-winning soap opera, Steven Raymond, told radio 702 they were confident that she would pull through.
”The surgery would allow doctors to alleviate the pressure on her brain … everyone is trying to keep as positive as they can because Callie is a fighter and she will pull through,” Raymond said. — Sapa
