The Jeppestown massacre trial was postponed in the Johannesburg High Court on Friday to allow a defence attorney to recover.
The court had to adjourn on Thursday morning after defence counsel Sibusiso Mbatha complained of pain. He had fallen down the stairs at his house on Wednesday night.
After requesting a postponement, state prosecutor Joanie Spies said Mbatha had consulted with a doctor and has apparently fractured two of his ribs.
”He called me and arranged that I ask for a postponement until Monday.”
The case was postponed to Monday morning.
Thirteen people are on trial for the death of 12 people, including four policemen, in a bloody gun battle in Jeppestown after a supermarket robbery in June 2006.
They face charges of armed robbery, conspiracy to rob, murder and attempted murder. — Sapa
