Proteas batsman Herschelle Gibbs has been released on R500 bail after he was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol in Sea Point, Cape Town, Western Cape police said on Friday.
Superintendent Billy Jones said the 34-year-old cricketer was released at 8am on Friday after he was detained at 3.35am.
It is alleged Gibbs, who was driving a volkswagen SUV vehicle, was pulled over by police in Main Road, Sea Point, near the corner of York Road for speeding at 1.45am, said Jones.
Gibbs was alone in the vehicle.
”A breathalyser was conducted within the prescribed time and he was detained at 3.35am at the Sea Point police station,” he said.
Gibbs is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on the June 27. – Sapa
