Operation Juggernaut snares 66 in Ekurhuleni

Operation Juggernaut netted 39 road offenders with outstanding traffic fines and 27 illegal immigrants, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Sunday.

Spokesperson Superintendent Vusi Mabanga said the arrests were carried out between 7am and 11am on Sunday.

”Juggernaut saw more than sixty people arrested for various crimes this morning [Sunday] on the N12 just outside Daveyton,” Mabanga said.

”The operation, conducted in connection with immigration officials, netted 27 foreign nationals.”

Mabanga said the foreigners were sent to Lindela Detention Centre where they would await their deportation.

He also said more than one hundred traffic fines were issued.

Motorists with outstanding fines are warned to update their fines and motor bike riders should adhere to the licensing requirements, he said.

Man caught at 185km/h

Meanwhile, a man was arrested and 439 other speeding drivers were caught on camera along the N12 near the Golden Highway offramp on Sunday, Johannesburg

Metro Police said.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said a 26-year-old man was arrested after he was caught travelling 185km/h in a 120km/h zone. He was later released on R1 000 bail and was due to appear in the Kliptown Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning.

Four hundred and thirty nine motorists were caught on camera and were due to receive their speeding fines in the post.

Meanwhile, metro police officers blocked off Ninth Avenue in Fairlands as a section of the Jukskei River had overflowed due to the heavy rain over the weekend. – Sapa
