Three shot dead in Lenasia family murder

A Lenasia man was arrested after he allegedly shot dead his wife, sister-in-law and brother-in-law on Sunday afternoon, Johannesburg police said.

”The middle-aged man, who was intoxicated at the time of the shooting, had been recently separated from his wife. Police believe the killing occurred due to the separation,” said Constable Edwin Ntsheo.

He said the suspect’s wife, Ayesa Bim Mohammed (29), was living with her sister, Anisa Rehman (26), and her sister’s husband, Mohammed Desai (age unknown), at their home in Jewel Street, Lenasia extension 13.

”Police arrived to find that the three had died on the scene … the man was arrested but could not talk as he might have been drunk, or on some form of drugs,” said Ntsheo.

The man was arrested and taken to hospital to receive treatment for substance poisoning.

”He is currently under police guard, and will appear in court as soon as he is fit,” Ntsheo said. — Sapa
