A 24-year-old man who allegedly attempted to set fire to the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) offices appeared before the Newlands Magistrate’s Court in Sophiatown on Friday.
Andile Makwakwa was remanded in custody to seek representation and for police to verify his address.
”Did you have a problem with the programming?” Judge Koos Pretorius quipped before explaining Makwakwa’s rights to him.
The attempted arson case was postponed to Wednesday.
Makwakwa allegedly poured petrol inside the entrance of the SABC building in Auckland Park on Monday. Security guards arrested him before he managed to set the petrol alight.
On Tuesday, police spokesperson Aubrey Kgomo said: ”We tried to interview the man and he said to me that he had a quarrel with some of the management of SABC. He said he had a project that went wrong with the management and does not work for the SABC any more.” — Sapa
