DJ guilty of Knysna murders

Disk jockey Heinrich Van Rooyen was found guilty of double murder in the Circuit High Court in Knysna in the Southern Cape, South African Broadcasting Corporation radio news reported on Friday.

The 25-year-old van Rooyen murdered 19-year-old Jessica Wheeler and 20-year-old Victoria Stadler three years ago.

Wheeler’s body was found in a church yard in the town’s main street. Stadler’s body was found a few weeks later in bushes in Noetzie, just outside the town.

Stadler’s mother, Hannetjie, told the broadcaster she always knew that the accused was guilty and that the judgement confirmed it.

Sentencing will take place on May 14 and 15. — Sapa
