Khumalo faces charges of drunken driving

The case involving former Bafana Bafana player Doctor Khumalo — who faces charges of drunken, reckless and negligent driving — is still being investigated, police said on Monday.

Police spokesperson Govidsamy Mariemuthoo said Khumalo’s accident report and blood samples were still being analysed and investigated.

Khumalo’s BMW collided with a minibus taxi on the N1 between the Maraisburg and Soweto off-ramps on Sunday.

Kaiser Chiefs team manger Bobby Motaung said: ”I have not been to the hospital today [Monday], but he was not critical and he was under observation yesterday,” Motaung said.

Khumalo — who is Kaiser Chiefs’ coach — together with his female passenger and three passengers from the taxi, were taken to the Flora Clinic on the West Rand following the accident.

One of the passengers has been discharged, according to the clinic’s spokesperson Shareen Stone.

She could not give any further information about the passenger. ‒ Sapa
