A Sydney suburb has been dubbed “cannabisville” after police found four apparently normal family homes were actually marijuana hothouses containing vast quantities of the illegal drug.
While the homes appeared to be typical suburban residences from the outside, a series of police raids found they used false walls and tunnels to hide sophisticated hydroponic cannabis plantations.
Police have seized 1 000 plants worth $7,5-million from four houses in Blair Athol, three of them located on a single street, and said there may be more in the suburb on Sydney’s south-western outskirts.
Investigators have appealed to the suburb’s residents to report any “strange smelling” houses that have undergone unexplained renovations. – AFP
