Man arrested in Durban for pimping children

A recently paroled 35-year-old man was arrested in Durban for allegedly pimping children as young as eight, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.

Spokesperson Superintendent Muzi Mngomezulu said the man was arrested on Thursday evening in Durban’s notorious Mahatma Gandhi Road (formerly Point Road) area.

Mngomezulu said the man was allegedly ”organising female children from the ages of eight to about 12 and handing them over to the buyers for sexual interests”.

Customers were paying R1 000 for each child, of which R300 went to the child.

The man had been released on parole two months ago. In 2006 he was arrested for a drug-related offence and was sentenced to eight years imprisonment for drug trafficking.

The man faced charges under the Sexual Offences Act, Child Protection Act and Human Trafficking Act.

He was expected to appear in court on Monday. – Sapa
