It is possible for business in South Africa and the African National Congress (ANC) to harmonise their goals, ANC president Jacob Zuma told a conference in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
”You want to know how safe your investments are,” he said.
”We want to know how your investments will improve the quality of life for our people.”
It is possible that both parties could agree on goals, he said.
South Africa is a good investment destination because of its non-racism, non-sexism, its rule of law and its regular elections, he said. There are also institutions such as the Public Protector and the South African Human Rights Commission to protect the interests of citizens.
”In 1994, we started on a solid footing. Now is the consolidation period,” Zuma said.
He assured the conference of a smooth transition to a new government in 2009.
”There is one ANC and that makes preparations for the transition manageable.”
He also said that the ANC operates as a collective and its policies ”did not belong to an individual”.
What had been agreed upon at Polokwane late last year still stands.
”We don’t expect any policy changes until 2012,” Zuma said.
