Three wounded in wedding gun attack

A 32-year-old man wounded three people at a wedding ceremony before turning the gun on himself in Balfour, Mpumalanga police said on Sunday.

Spokesperson Superintendent Abie Khoabane said the incident occurred on Saturday during a traditional wedding ceremony.

He said the 32-year-old man, the brother of the bride, fired randomly at guests, injuring two of his aunts and the bridegroom.

He then locked himself in a shack, shot himself in the head and died.

The injured were taken to the Standerton Hospital in a critical condition.

Eight cartridges were found at the scene.

Khoabane said the gunman last year threatened to shoot people when one of his sisters was getting married. He said it was not known what caused the man to shoot at the guests. — Sapa
