Sowetan Angie Motshekga on Sunday became the leader of the African National Congress’s powerful Women’s League.
Motshekga, Gauteng’s education minister, won 1 826 votes to rival Bathabile Dlamini’s 1 531.
Motshekga is a member of the ANC’s national executive committee and national working committee and has a Masters degree in education.
Former league president Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, on Friday failed to secure a nomination for the league’s top job.
Madikizela-Mandela received 480 votes from the delegates.
