Ailing Prince Zulu no longer under police guard

Durban businessman and socialite Prince Sifiso Zulu is no longer under police guard in hospital, police said on Wednesday.

Director Phindile Radebe said due to the serious nature of his ailments, police felt it was no longer necessary to post guards at the hospital.

”The police case against Zulu has been provisionally withdrawn but he will appear for his court case on July 18.”

She said that once Zulu had recovered from his injuries, the investigation would continue.

On March 29, Zulu’s BMW X5 was involved in a hit-and-run accident with a Mitsubishi double-cab bakkie. Two members of the Soul’s Harbour Ministries Church were killed and 10 other people were injured.

Zulu was allegedly drunk at the time of the accident and initially denied being the driver of the vehicle.

Zulu was arrested in June and appeared in court on culpable homicide charges. He was granted bail of R5 000 and the case was postponed to July 18.

The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal has since also called for an inquiry into the role of provincial Safety and Security minister Bheki Cele in Zulu’s investigation.

The party’s caucus leader Roger Burrows claimed Cele intervened on Zulu’s behalf at the police station after the accident.

Meanwhile, Zulu was reported to have stabbed himself once in the neck and twice in the chest. He was also believed to have fractured his left arm and leg as a result of a fall from the window of his second-storey flat. – Sapa
