The South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) contract with MultiChoice to broadcast SABC Africa’s programming will end on August 1, the public broadcaster announced on Monday.
”The SABC and MultiChoice had entered into negotiations to continue the service; however, the process did not yield results and the outcome is the discontinuation of the SABC Africa channel on DStv,” said SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago.
This means that there will be no more broadcasts of SABC Africa’s programming.
However, when the channels become digital, SABC Africa might be broadcast again and its staff will remain on to help the channel prepare for the digital migration, said Kganyago.
SABC Africa offers a mix of entertainment, news and sport. Its shows include Business Africa, African Perspectives and 180 Degrees Live in Africa.
It also rebroadcasts popular SABC soap operas, drama series, talk shows and documentaries. — Sapa
