One pupil dead, another injured in high-school stabbings

A pupil was killed and a second seriously injured in separate school stabbings in Mpumalanga and Gauteng this week.

The alleged culprits were arrested in both cases, police said.

The latest incident was in Florida on the West Rand when two boys, both aged 16, started fighting in a classroom at Roodepark High School on Tuesday morning.

”They took the fight outside, where it’s alleged that the suspect stabbed the victim in the head with a sharp object”, said police spokesperson Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu.

The injured boy was taken to a hospital, where he reported to be in a critical condition.

His alleged attacker was arrested and was expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court shortly.

In KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga, a 17-year-old grade eight pupil was stabbed to death by another pupil after an argument at a high school.

Police spokesperson Captain Mamsy Cibe said the boy was stabbed by a 18-year-old at Senzangakhona High School in Mandela village at about 2pm on Monday.

”Apparently they were fighting in a tavern in the area on Sunday and the fight continued at school. The suspect ran away after stabbing the victim but he was later brought to the police station by his two brothers,” said Cibe.

The victim died on the scene.

The 18-year-old boy was charged with murder and is expected to appear before the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. – Sapa
