Simmer and Jack Mines said on Thursday that an accident at its Buffelsfontein mine in North West has claimed the life of one mine worker.
The incident took place at the number two shaft in the early hours of Wednesday and appeared to have been tramming-related, the company said. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by management as well as representatives of organised labour and the Department of Minerals and Energy.
Gordon Miller, chief executive of Simmers, said: “We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and wish to assure them of the company’s support in this difficult time.” — I-Net Bridge
