ANC Northern Cape conference delayed

The African National Congress (ANC) provincial conference in the Northern Cape did not start on Tuesday morning as planned.

Nobody was allowed to enter the conference venue at the Moshaweng municipal offices, several kilometres outside Kuruman.

At the registering venue in Kuruman at the municipal offices, doors had been closed since early on Tuesday morning.

People standing around at the hall said they were waiting to be registered. They were from Siyanda (Upington), Namaqua (Springbok) and some other regions.

Security personnel at the scene said the registering process was stopped on Monday night at about 10pm.

The situation apparently got out of hand after people tried to enter the hall to be registered.

”They were fighting outside and inside,” said a man who did not want to be named.

Police officials who stopped the media from entering the conference venue said nobody was allowed inside until a meeting in town (Kuruman) had finished.

No ANC spokesperson was available for comment. — Sapa
