Relief for motorists as petrol price drops sharply

The retail price of petrol will drop by between 69 and 78 cents a litre next week, the Minerals and Energy Department said on Friday.

Price decreases will differ throughout the country.

In coastal areas, 93 unleaded petrol (ULP) and lead replacement petrol (LRP) will decrease by 73 cents per litre, while 95 ULP and LRP will drop by 78 cents per litre..

Inland, 93 ULP and LRP will drop by 69 cents per litre and 95 ULP and LRP by 74 cents per litre.

The wholesale price of diesel with a 0,05% sulphur content will drop by R1,44 per litre. Diesel with a 0,005% sulphur content will drop by R1,46 a litre.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will drop by R1,46 a litre and the single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin by R1,94 a litre.

The retail price of petrol decreased on average by 27 cents a litre at the beginning of August. — Sapa
