Trade union the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) said on Monday that the ”unilateral restructuring process” in the South African Police Service (SAPS) had been stopped.
This was agreed upon in a meeting on Monday between the union and the management of the SAPS under acting National Commissioner Tim Williams, the union said.
”Both parties further agreed to finalise the deliberations in a period of two weeks. This development is critical, for it has managed to diffuse the impasse that was simmering as a result of the SAPS’s unilateral action. We hope and trust that the negotiations will produce a win-win result,” the union said.
Last week the SAPS announced that as part of a restructuring process, all police posts were regarded as ”vacant”, and officers were required to reapply for their positions. — I-Net Bridge
