Orlando Pirates look set to be confirmed as Premier Soccer Peague (PSL) champions this weekend. Pirates need just one point from their match against Wits University on Saturday at the Royal Bafokeng stadium to lift the premiership title.
Wits, who conceded two weeks ago that they were no longer in the title race, still have something to play for, though. Wits coach Roger De Sa said: ”We would like to get six points from our last two games so as to get the home game in the top eight.”
Wits won when the two sides met in the first round, and Pirates would not want that to happen again. If they cannot see off Wits, Moroka Swallows will still have a chance of stealing the championship from under the noses of the Buccaneers.
As the PSL championship race draws to a close, the first division begins to take centre stage.
Two teams in each of the inland and coastal streams fight it out to gain promotion into the elite league.Â
Leading the pack in the inland division are Silver Stars, with 66 points from 27 games and three games remaining, followed by former PSL club Bloemfontein Celtic, with 62 points from 26 games.
In the coastal stream it is neck-and-neck between Premier United (56) and Amazulu (55) with three games remaining.
