Constitutional Court has political agenda, says ANCYL

Constitutional Court Judge President Pius Langa is pursuing a political agenda favouring President Thabo Mbeki, the Gauteng African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) said on Tuesday.

”The judges of the Constitutional Court … their agenda has been political as opposed to upholding the rule of law.

”Langa himself was appointed by the current state president. His [Langa] conduct was very problematic,” said Thabo Kupa, Gauteng ANCYL secretary.

He was briefing the media in Johannesburg on planned demonstrations in Pietermaritzburg on Friday, when the Pietermaritzburg High Court will rule on an application to have corruption charges against ANC president Jacob Zuma scrapped.

Asked whether he meant that Langa is pursuing a political agenda in favour of Mbeki, Kupa replied: ”Yes”.

The Constitutional Court recently ruled that search-and-seizure raids related to the corruption charges against Zuma were lawful. — Sapa
