Ricky Januarie arrested for drunken driving

Springbok scrumhalf Ricky Januarie was arrested on Sunday morning in Durbanville for drunken driving.

Beeld reported that attorney Frikkie Erasmus, who has ties with the Stormers rugby team, confirmed the incident. Erasmus said that Januarie would appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Januarie played on Saturday in Western Province’s 92-15 thrashing of the Valke at Newlands.

This is the second time this year that Januarie has landed in trouble due to alcohol abuse. In June he lost his place in the Springbok team before the first Test against Wales after arriving back at the team hotel after curfew and under the influence.

He was suspended for one match.—Sapa
