Transnet freight wagons derail

Thirty-five wagons have derailed along the main line to Richards Bay Coal Terminal, Transnet Freight Rail said on Monday.

The incident happened in the early hours of Monday morning at Ngwempisi, near Ermelo.

The coal was destined for the export market through Richards Bay.

The train was hauling a total of 200 wagons. There were no injuries and Transnet Freight Rail engineers and track crews were on site to begin the process of repairing the line.

”This area is served by a single line and is now blocked to traffic. The other line has been closed to traffic due to procedural repairs,” Transnet Freight Rail said.

The expected time of re-opening the line would be determined later on Monday. — Sapa
