Actress Daphney Hlomuka-Ngubane dies

South African actress Daphney Hlomuka-Ngubane, popularly known as Sis May in the TV show S’gudi S’naysi, died on Wednesday.

”Ngubane, who worked on the show since its inception in 1986, died after a long illness,” said South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago.

She was working as a call-centre agent with the SABC at the time of her death.

Kganyago said he was not sure what illness Ngubane had encountered or how old she was.

S’gudi S’naysi, which translates to ”It’s good, It’s nice”, starred Ngubane as Sis May — a middle-aged woman living in Soweto.

She starred along side popular actor Joe Mafela, who played S’dumo, an unemployed man who came to lodge with her. — Sapa
