Police are looking into a possible arson case after a fire broke out in the Pretoria High Court on Friday, the second in about two weeks, Tshwane emergency services said.
Spokesperson Johan Pieterse said the fire broke out about 3.15pm in one room on the eighth floor and then spread to the roof.
”Fire services were very quick to respond. There was lots of smoke on the top floor. According to the report, initially one room was alight and the fire entered the roof area.”
The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes and no one was injured. He said officials would be investigating the cause of the fire.
They would not exclude arson as ”something definitely is not right”.
”It’s the second fire in two weeks … it’s exactly the same situation,” he said. In both cases it appeared as if the benches had been set on fire.
”There were lots of papers visible on the floor and pattern of fire shows that this is not a fire that started from something that went bad. It looks like something suspicious,” he said. — Sapa
