Golden Arrows humiliated Ajax Cape Town when they walloped them 4-0 in a one-sided Absa Premiership match at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Arrows’ lethal striker Richard Henyekane continued his great scoring form when he scored a hat-trick to increase his tally in the league to seven goals.
This was sweet revenge for Arrows, who suffered a shock 3-1 defeat against the Urban Warriors in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinal at the weekend.
Arrows meant business from the start and broke the stalemate in the fourth minute when Henyekane converted Francis Kombe’s terrific pass.
Ajax keeper Sean Roberts made a brilliant save in the 13th minute when he parried Kombe’s shot over the crossbar to force a corner. A minute later, the Ajax defence cracked again under pressure from the speedy Arrows wingers when Kombe headed home Njabulo Manganya’s telling cross to make it 2-0.
Henyekane put matters beyond Ajax’s reach in the 37th minute when he headed home Philane Shange’s cross from the right flank, giving Roberts no chance.
Ajax tried their best to reduce the deficit, but failed to penetrate the solid Arrows defence, with striker Mabhuti Khenyeza being tightly marked. Henyekane hammered the final nail into the Ajax coffin to grab his hat-trick in the 83rd minute when he converted Thabiso Senamela’s pass. — Sapa
