Man commits suicide over football result

A 25-year-man committed suicide because his favourite soccer team lost a match, Johannesburg police said on Monday.

Ivory Park police station spokesperson Lesiba Manamela said the body of Paol Sithole was found at 7pm on Saturday hanging from the roof of the shack he shared with his wife and three-year-old daughter

”He watched the game at a tavern when Orlando Pirates defeated Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 on Saturday.”

Manamela said Sithole was a staunch supporter of Kaizer Chiefs and did not like it when he was mocked by Orlando Pirates supporters at the tavern after his team lost.

”He came back from the tavern, went to his wife who is a hawker, and told her that he was disappointed by the loss. He said he could not tolerate the embarrassment of being humiliated by a 2-0.”

Manamela said the man demanded the keys to their shack from his wife and went home. He was found hanging by an electrical wire from the roof.

Manamela said Sithole was originally from Mozambique.
